Immersed within lush Malvasia vineyards and surrounded by deep blue seas rests Capofaro Locanda & Malvasia, a spectacular estate in the UNESCO World Heritage Site Aeolian Islands. Capofaro is located on Salina, the greenest island of the Archipelago and whose ancient name is Didyme, twins in Greek, referring to the two mountains, two extinct volcanos in fact, that give Salina its unmistakable outline from the water and the sky.

The Aeolian sea breeze guides all the guests’ senses through a magical journey to discover the colors, fragrances, aromas, and flavors of Capofaro, a sanctuary of peace and relaxation, nestled atop a gentle cliff facing the islands of Panarea and Stromboli. The owners and caretakers of the land, Conti Tasca d’Almerita, are an aristocratic family and well-known Sicilian wine producers for eight generations.

They imbued Capofaro with their unwavering passion for, all-encompassed by their flair for warm and genuine hospitality, while assuring to operate with the utmost respect for the environment and the local communities. Capofaro’s 27 rooms and suites, with their bright, minimal architecture and design, express the Aeolian architectural style: whitewashed surfaces, white columns, and shadowy patios overlooking the tranquil expanse of the Mediterranean Sea dotted by the other Aeolian Islands.

One distinctive feature is the still operational historical lighthouse (‘Faro’ in Italian, hence Capofaro’s name), with its reassuring beam of light brightening the path that winds through the estate. The Faro was acquired and restored by the Tasca Family in 2017. Guests can stay in one of the six beautifully appointed rooms and suites of what used to be the guardian’s lodgings.

The property’s core is the generous freshwater pool and spacious solarium terrace framed by vineyards and pinewood. Not far but secluded lies our garden spa, which is open for various holistic treatments. Sports lovers can enjoy a game of padel tennis on the court by the lighthouse, while yoga and meditation classes are held daily in multiple venues within the estate.

In the restaurant, guests can explore our Executive Chef Ludovico’s cuisine, a harmonic combination of traditions of the ‘monsu’ – cooks of the Sicilian and Neapolitan aristocratic houses – and farmers’ knowledge handed down from generation to generation. Following a ‘zero kilometer’ approach, our organic garden provides 70% of the ingredients used by our kitchen brigade.

The Cocktail Bar by the main terrace comes alive for memorable sundowners. The brand-new Wine Bar dominating the Amphitheatre vineyard showcases, among the others, all the wines produced by Tasca d’Almerita in their five estates across Sicily and offers an enhanced wine program of pairings and tastings.

At Capofaro, they make our Malvasia delle Lipari in its two varietals: the dry Didyme and Vigna di Paola and the sweet Capofaro. Malvasia is the noble fruit of the Aeolian Islands; the grape belongs to aromatic wines. Capofaro Locanda & Malvasia has been a proud member of Relais & Châteaux since 2017.
